First Activity
We held a Discussion Session at ALA Annual. We did an Open Topics format, so those attending raised different issues that they wanted to discuss and as facilitators we guided the conversation to address all topics raised. Some of those topics included being new to the management role, the challenges of chronological/generational differences between supervisors and direct reports (significantly when the supervisor is younger and/or with less time experience in field or organization, effective ways to motivate and support staff through change, among others). We had approximately 25 attendees and immediate feedback from attendees was they found the session informative and useful as it allowed people to raise questions, and others to contribute responses based on their own experiences.

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
We will be developing an online discussion forum for Core Interest Week. Topics and questions will be solicited in advance and the discussion will be planned to address each of these, and drawing on participants thoughts and observations. So a peer-mentoring discussion in essence.
Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
