What will your group be working on for the next 6 months? We will be working on getting a new chair/co-chair and onboarding. There will be planning for a fall event, a review of resources, planning for another CORE IG week event.
How did your work contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, or belonging within Core or the library profession? What areas of improvement do you see for your IG or Core in these areas? Our event during IG week focused on how to fuel improvements and develop a more deliberate approach for providing access to electronic resources. This is incredibly important as we aim to reach users of all experience levels, and take into consideration important accessibility measures so that all users can effectively use library materials. I think CORE does a good job of supporting inclusion for the library profession.
Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its activities?

First Activity ERIG participated in Interest Group Week with two presentations on the topic of strategic management or planning for electronic resources. We had 234 registrations and 121 attendees at the live session. The recording and slides were shared via Core Connect on our interest group page.
Second Activity We have planned and scheduled an ERIG meeting at ALA in San Diego at 9am on July 1st. The meeting will be an open forum discussion on the following:
Building on the topic of implementing strategic planning for electronic resources from our April 2024 Core Interest Group Week session, the ERIG is meeting to discuss cycles in libraries and what we have learned from them. In this meeting we will discuss the following questions:
• If everything goes in cycles, what can we Learn from the past practices of e-resources?
• What has changed or improved in managing electronic resources and what areas remain challenging?
• What emerging trends in electronic resources impact our workflows?
• what professional development is essential to maintain relevancy when managing electronic resources?

Fifth Activity
What will your group be working on for the next 6 months? We have identified a new co-chair (Taylor Ralph) to join Anne Larrivee as Kerry Walton is rolling off. Anne and Taylor have plans to meet following ALA to discuss topics and activities for the coming year.
How did your work contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, or belonging within Core or the library profession? What areas of improvement do you see for your IG or Core in these areas? Participating in Interest Group Week provides an inclusive forum for presentation and discussion that can positively impact the work outcomes for electronic resource and collections librarians. The primary contribution is to increase belonging for all librarians in the work of the profession, the work of the interest group, and in Core. By offering opportunities, we can increase the potential for connectedness within the organization and collaborative efforts across different libraries. Whether in the electronic resources, metadata, collections, or other library specific fields, providing these opportunities makes the work more accessible to all.
Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its activities?
Please provide suggestions for future education topics, initiatives, publications, resources, or other activities that could be developed based on your group’s discussions or work.
Please describe anything you need to bring to the Core Board for discussion or action at their next meeting.
Please share any additional comments, concerns, or suggestions you have. Anne Larrivee will remain as the primary co-chair and Taylor Ralph is the new co-chair.

Meets Core’s strategic goals for Membership and Value to Members

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
We are new chairs that reached out to offer co-chairing the interest group when one of us as a past-chair of the IG saw it was going to be sunset from lack of activity. We have scheduled a time for Interest Group Week with the goal of having presentations on a topic. We are brainstorming a list of topics so that we have several ready for calls for proposals for both IG Week and future opportunities. We are discussing the idea of hosting a discussion at ALA Annual.

Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
Core was responsive as soon as I reached out to offer co-chairing and offered assistance in getting the IG back up and running. Greatly appreciate it!

Recent Activities

First Activity
Open Access Discoverability, Advocacy, and Management session held on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 10 – 11am Central Time ( US and Canada)

The program includes two presentations:
Presentation One: Open Access Discoverability and Advocacy: A Community College Perspective

Presented by:
Louise Feldman, Reference and OER Librarian, Delaware County Community College
Andrea Rodgers, Assistant Professor & Reference Librarian, Delaware County Community College.

Description:
Since 2020, the Electronic Resources and OER Librarians at Delaware County Community College (DCCC) have worked together on a variety of projects to increase visibility and discovery of open access content and OERs to their faculty, staff, and students. Initiatives include subscribing to EBSCO’s Faculty Select platform and their inclusion in DCCC Library Services’ discovery system, Summon. Open access resource development efforts include compiling subject specific lists of open access content and establishing selection criteria for adoption of these resources. To grow the College faculty awareness of OERs, DCCC librarians actively explore grant opportunities and offer workshops. This presentation focuses on community college librarians’ efforts in OER and open access discoverability and advocacy at an institution in the early stages of their adoption and may be of interest to academic librarians supporting and advocating for OER on their campus.

Presentation Two: Managing Open Access Resources at the University of California Libraries

Presented by:
Cynthia Johnson, Head of Reference and the Grunigen Medical Library, University of California, Irvine
Tamara Pilko, Electronic Resources Librarian, University of California, Santa Cruz
Erica Zhang, Metadata Librarian for Open Access, University of California, Los Angeles

Description:
The University of California libraries recently migrated from 10 separate library systems to a shared Alma/Primo VE library services platform in July 2021. With this huge shift in infrastructure, a UC-wide task force was established to determine how best to manage Open Access Electronic Resources in this new consortial system. The Open Access Resource Management Task Force is nearing the end of 2 phases, and we will share our work in defining what open access means to us, what principles will guide our ongoing activity around OA, what tasks are outstanding, and what skillsets are needed for a successful OA project team beyond this initial task force.
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Continuing Education, Membership and Engagement

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
Soliciting ideas for future continuing education presentations and workshops.

Recent Activities

First Activity
During CORE's virtual interest group week in June 2021, we held a panel of lightening talks with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) within the field of electronic resources. My co-chair and I wrote a report on the session for Technical Services Quarterly.
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Advocacy and EDI

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
We are currently planning and preparing for the 2022 Virtual Interest Group week. We sent out a call for proposals and will be working on securing presenters. We are also talking about plans for ALA Annual. After serving the interest group for three year through the transition to CORE, I will be stepping down and we will run a call for a new co-chair.

Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
I have been impressed with the support and communication that CORE has done throughout the transition and into this year.

Please provide suggestions for future education topics, initiatives, publications, resources, or other activities that could be developed based on your group’s work.
As the technical services/resources management side of libraries continues to become more integrated and as positions evolve to support these innovative changes, it would be great to see more emphasis on this collaboration. Metadata, discovery, linked data, and how our users are finding and using information due to how we manage those three things is really important to understand and develop best practices for.
