We hosted a Forum during 2023 Interest Group Week titled: Copy Cataloging before, during and after an ILS migration.

Further ILS migration presentations. This can be very interesting during a time when many Academic Libraries have been migrating to new LSPs.

First Activity
The Copy Cataloging Interest Group hold a session titled “Copy Cataloging in BIBFRAME and Linked Data: How Possible Is It” during March 2022 Core Virtual IG Week (https://www.ala.org/core/continuing-education/interest-group-week) on Tuesday, March 8th, 2022, 11 am-12 pm (CST) / 12-1 pm (EST) / 9-10 am (PST).

This session featured three invited panelists who have been exploring and experimenting copy cataloging using linked data. Our invited speakers discussed how they began copy cataloging with linked data, what they have done so far, and the future work of copy-cataloging in this new environment.

Meets Core’s strategic goals for Continuing Education

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
Finalizing new vice co-chairs for the 2022-2023 year and transitioning them into the group. We will be updating the organization chart on the Interest Group’s Connect Page and ensuring new vice co-chairs have access to existing documentation and a background on what the group has done during previous years. Once vice co-chairs are set we will meet to discuss future activities and programming. Future programming will be determined by taking a look at current and continuing trends and their application in copy cataloging. (by Dean Bergstrom, co-vice-chair, 2021-2022)

Recent Activities

First Activity
The Copy Cataloging Interest Group has met and frequently discusses programming initiatives. We are currently working on our programming for ALA Core's Virtual Interest Group week in March. The group wants to focus on current and continuing trends in cataloging, and how copy catalogers might practically apply these trends. To that end, the Interest Group is convening a panel of presenters to discuss how their institutions are utilizing linked data/non-MARC metadata in their copy cataloging work. Once Virtual Interest Group week concludes the Interest Group will meet again to discuss future initiatives and recruiting for new co vice-chairs.

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
We will be working on finalizing our session for Core's Virtual Interest Group Week in March. Once this is complete, we will work on completing our reorganization of the Interest Group's Connect page, so that we can update it with any relevant documentation, meeting minutes, and previous presentations that are currently stored in a Google folder. This way, when the current co-chairs roll off, the new co-chairs and co vice-chairs will have easy access to all of the documentation of the Interest Group, without needing to change over Google folder permissions. The Interest Group will also work on recruiting new co vice-chairs for the upcoming year term, as well as any future programming the Group will want to do.
