Committee Work

Summary of work accomplished, decisions made, and follow-up actions determined during the past 6 months

We continued to solicit monographs and seek to identify monograph topics for potential publication. We worked directly with ALA Editions to ensure that any monographs fit within their current publication goals. We also worked directly with authors and editors to support them throughout the publication process.

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?

  • Reviewing monograph proposals
  • Soliciting ideas and proposals for future publications
  • Working with Core Publications Coordination Committee and with ALA Editions to provide input on relevant policies

How did your work contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, or belonging within Core or the library profession? What areas of improvement do you see for your committee or Core in these areas?

The Board is currently shepherding two monographs that address DEIA topics, “Liberatory Librarianship: Case Studies of Information Professionals Advancing Justice” and “Inclusive Cataloging: Philosophical Questions and Case Studies in Reparative Cataloging”.

Monographs Editorial Board – May 2023 Report



The group met 4-6 times this quarter.

Recent Activities

First Activity
The Board has both solicited monographs and sought to identify monograph topics for potential publication. This was done through speaking with prospective authors/editors, determine gaps in current literature, and attending meetings and conferences.

Second Activity
The Board has worked directly with ALA Editions to ensure that any monographs fit within their current publication goals and foci.

Third Activity
The Board worked directly with authors/editors throughout the publication process. This support included helping them to craft submission proposals, answering questions and providing feedback during the writing and editing process, and helping them market their work post-publication.

Fourth Activity
As the Board is newly organized within Core, time has been spent establishing workflows in order to both streamline work within the Board's activities and to further support our partnership with ALA Editions.

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
The Board will continue to seek out and shepherd monographs throughout the publication process. We will also continue to build workflows with an eye towards long-term use by current and future Board members.

Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
No. Core and its staff have been thoroughly supportive throughout this time.
