Committee Work

Summary of work accomplished, decisions made, and follow-up actions determined during the past 6 months

The committee met monthly from July to Dec. During this time we:

  • Prepared and launched the 23-24 Mentoring Program
  • Reviewed applications and Paired 23 Mentors/Mentees Duos
  • Contacted and received agreements from all mentees/mentors
  • Conducted the Mentoring Kickoff presentation
  • Discussed future programming and committee structure
  • Reviewed and made recommendation on Emerging Leaders

Recent Activities

First Activity
Planned for the launch of Leadership & Mentoring Program, including workbreak down, timeline, sub committees for different phases, recruitment and matching of mentors/mentees, program kick off and periodic assesssment.

Planning for Leadership 'Institute' expansion of the leadership and mentoring program to build develop a multiday leadership institute with a variety of speakers and builds upon the updated/revised leadership competencies by form LLAMA members.

Based on Core Conference proposals, building a leadership pre-conference workshops

Developing a leadership institute for launch in FY 2024-5

Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
Jenny's (and the rotating ALA staffing) have been great, no complaints there. I think the one thing that stands out, is my favorite quote du jour – 'design thrives in specificity'. We've received unclear/mixed messages about what Core has wanted with regard to a leadership institute/program. We're at a good point now, but greater clarity/boundaries/scoping for future pipeline projects would help volunteers not feel like they're wasting their time working on something, only to be told, well not like that because xyz…

Continued implementation of Mentoring Program, including kickoff orientation, monthly check-ins, culminating program, and program assessment

Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work?
Core staff has been incredible – nothing at this time.

Incrementally increasing duration of program: currently at 6 months; increase to 9 months

Who will be our next Core Staff member with Brooke's departure. I know that we're temporarily reporting to Julie Reese – will Brooke's position be replaced, or will we be reassigned to remaining staff?

Leadership Development and Mentoring Committee – May 2022 Report

The group met 2-3 times this quarter.

Recent Activities

First Activity
Committee finalized and launched a mentoring project. Currently seeking both mentors and mentees. Committee created a survey for self identification of needs of mentees and skills or expertise of mentors to aid in creating successful pairings. Evaluative/follow up work also being created to assist in refining the process of pairing mentors with mentees. Anticipate kick of for 4th week of June with an anticipate 6 month experience for each pairing. Encouraging committee members to sign up for the project

Second Activity
Discussed ALA emerging Leaders submission – the committee missed the deadline for this project but wants to be sure that it is engaged for next year’s submissions.

creating a system for pairing of mentor and mentees. Establishing assessment system for mentoring program. Seeking to promote program.
