| Fourth Activity | |
| What will your group be working on for the next 6 months? Write these goals in SMART goal format. |
Our group will have plenty to work on in the coming months. We’re working on preparations for the upcoming Ask the Expert Webinar and the Meeting/Presentation at ALA Annual. SMART Goals During the next six months, the ALA Core Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee will host a webinar with expert Emily Fidelman to present information to the wider library community about best practices for all things holdings. We will contact ALA to reserve the Zoom Room, we will correspond with Emily to ensure the best date/time for this webinar, we will publicize the webinar on various listservs. During the next six months, the ALA Core Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee will host an in-person meeting/presentations at the 2026 ALA Annual Convention in Chicago, IL. We will solicit experts to speak at this meeting. Our current experts include: Regina Reynolds, Director of the US ISSN Center, and Amy Phillips, Cataloging Policy Specialist at the Library of Congress. Steps taken to ensure this meeting are: corresponding with Tom Ferren at ALA to ensure meeting space is reserved, corresponding with experts Regina Reynolds and Amy Phillips to ensure they are willing and able to speak at ALA Annual 2026. Solicit a third expert to speak during this slot. |
| Fifth Activity | |
| How did your work contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, or belonging within Core or the library profession? What areas of improvement do you see for your committee or Core in these areas? |
Our Committee contributed to belonging within the library profession in that we presented a webinar to the community that was incredibly helpful for a wide variety of library professionals. Knowing how to catalog these complex legal materials could lead new professionals to have a better feeling of belonging within the community. This could also possibly increase their level of happiness in the profession. |
| Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work? | I feel as if I missed an orientation session at the beginning of my service as Chair. I've been on this Committee since 2022, so I understand a bit of the work, but it's different to be the one who has to get things done. An example: I had to email multiple folks multiple times to reserve our space for the webinar. It was frustrating, but it ultimately worked out. |
| Please provide suggestions for future education topics, initiatives, publications, resources, or other activities that could be developed based on your group’s work. | I think we could continue working on the webinars. I also think we could create a toolbox for cataloging continuing resources — this would be helpful for new staff members who are not as familiar with cataloging these resources. |
| Please describe anything you need to bring to the Core Board or section leadership for discussion or action at their next meeting. | NA |

| What will your group be working on for the next 6 months? Write these goals in SMART goal format. |
We will be deciding on an expert for “Ask an Expert” Forum. We will make the decision in late summer/early fall and invite the expert. We will create a form for questions submission. We will decide on a date for the forum to be given in the fall. |
| Fifth Activity | |
| How did your work contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, or belonging within Core or the library profession? What areas of improvement do you see for your committee or Core in these areas? |
This committee strives to provide access to all catalogers of continuing resources. We provide a training webinar that is free and open to all catalogers in Core regardless of the type of library and their access to resources. We attempted to submit a proposal for both ALA and Core Forum that would have addressed the unique DEI issues associated with cataloging Zines. |

Additonal continuing education programming:
|
| Fifth Activity | |
| How did your work contribute to diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, or belonging within Core or the library profession? What areas of improvement do you see for your committee or Core in these areas? |
Our programming is freely available and open to all. |
| Is there anything Core could have provided during this time that would have helped your group with its work? | |
| Please provide suggestions for future education topics, initiatives, publications, resources, or other activities that could be developed based on your group’s work. | It would be helpful for us to have a dedicated session at ALA to provide future training and updates for serials catalogers and catalogers in general. We are specialized, and ALA does not offer us much valuable programming. We have submitted program proposals and were told that our proposal did not have wide enough appeal. |
| Please describe anything you need to bring to the Core Board or section leadership for discussion or action at their next meeting. | Technical services is a key part of Core. Core programming is becoming so generalized, and lacks sufficient cataloging and metadata content. More examples of practical applications of cataloging and metadata processes would be useful. More concrete learning opportunities. More opportunities to learn about updates (RDA, serials, LCSH, BIBFRAME, linked data, etc.!) |
| Please share any additional comments, concerns, or suggestions you have. | The committee is happy to discuss programming with our board liaison. |

As of May 31, 2024, CRCC held two programs: CRCC Update Forum (Jan. 20, 2024) Speakers:
The program was well attended and well received. Speakers offered to speak at future forums. Ask the Expert (May 30) Speaker:
CRCC is trialing a new informal educational program aimed at serials catalogers that encourages catalogers to submit their cataloging questions (we provide a form) and an expert will review their questions and offer solutions during a webinar. The idea behind the program is that because serials cataloging is rather specialized, many libraries have only one person who works with these resources. This program helps build a sense of community and provide guidance to catalogers who may not have colleagues in house with whom they can collaborate. The “expert” will select from the submissions and gear the delivery to the serials cataloging community. CRCC liaison attended CC:DA (Sharolyn Swenson). |

Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee (An ALA, Core committee) Update Forum: March 23, 10:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m. PST/12:00 noon-1:30 CST/1-2:30 EST. This regular forum provides updates from important centers of continuing resource work: CONSER, NACO, ISSN, and other special topics relevant to all types of continuing resources. This is informative for all, but perhaps especially for early career catalog librarians in providing an overview of the many aspects of continuing resources cataloging. We had 236 registrants
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Career Building and Recognition, Membership and Value to Members
Second Activity
Planning (logistics, correspondence, etc.) for accepted proposal for program: Cataloging Continuing Resources: Preparing for Future Linked-Data Environment at ALA Annual Conference. Two speakers: Bob Maxwell (Brigham Young University) and Tina Shrader (National Library of Medicine). Timely topics on preparing for the Official RDA and a linked data future

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
• Hosting ALA/Core program (see 2nd activity above) at ALA Annual meeting.
• Transitioning to new chair and a few new members
• Planning for next Update forum (probably in the fall) and any other program proposals or other endeavors.
Please provide suggestions for future education topics, initiatives, publications, resources, or other activities that could be developed based on your group’s work.

Additional comments or concerns:
Why are reports due end of May instead of End of June? We are not technically finished our commitments until end of June.

Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee – December 2022 Report
Part of the Metadata & Collections Section
The group met 4-6 times this quarter.
Recent Activities
First Activity
ALA, Core program proposal submission for ALA Annual June 2023. Program proposal was accepted. Title: Cataloging continuing resources: preparing for a future linked-data environment
We will have two speakers, Bob Maxwell and Tina Shrader
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Membership and Value to Members
Second Activity
Core Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee Forum. Held virtually. This is the 2nd in this series, which will be held twice yearly and revives the meeting that met Mondays at ALA Annual and Midwinter meetings. It consists of a panel of leaders in the field for continuing resources and related authority work.
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Membership and Value to Members
What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
We will plan our program proposal with our speakers and ALA (Jenny Levine) for the ALA Annual meeting. And, we will plan our next CRCC update forum–tentatively this will occur Feb. or March 2023.
And, Steve Kelly recommended that the Core/Metadata Management Continuing Resources Holdings committee be merged with CRCC, due to low membership for that group; as chair, I think this is a good fit and at least one current member agrees; I assume we will need to do some work to make this a reality. mostly communication, etc.

Continuing Resources Cataloging Committee – May 2022 Report
Part of the Metadata & Collections Section
The group met 4-6 times this quarter.
Recent Activities
First Activity
CRCC update forum
o First virtual one was held February 24, 2022.
o We had 255 registrants, and 158 attended.
o The meeting was recorded and all registrants received the link to the recording.
o This replicates the in-person forum held at previous ALA Midwinter and Annual meetings on Mondays, the last day of the conference for many.
o It included updates from major centers for continuing resources work
CONSER
U.S. ISSN Center
NACO, including series, but which focused on the new RDA toolkit.
Directory of Open Access Journals
o It was endorsed by Core and advertised in various venues.
o Feedback indicate that twice a year would be the preferable frequency, replicating that of the in-person ALA Conference meeting.
o We are planning the 2nd one for September of 2022.
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Advocacy and EDI, Continuing Education, Membership and Engagement
Second Activity
Core Forum program proposals
o We submitted two program proposals for this forum.
o One focused on diachronic works with Ed Jones as the speaker; the other one focused on cataloging continuing resources in Sinopia, with Tina Shrader as the speaker.
o Neither speaker would be attending in-person, which is a requirement for Core Forum programs, which ended our pursuit in this endeavor. This we have found is a major problem in this transition period to in-person meetings: getting all participants, including speakers and committee members, to attend in-person makes planning extremely difficult. We hope this will change if in-person meetings becomes the norm again.
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Advocacy and EDI, Continuing Education, Membership and Engagement
Third Activity
CRCC membership
o The chair requested two new members. At the writing of this, we are still waiting to hear about the 2nd new member (see below for roster)
o We are a little concerned that most of us will be cycling of in 2023, so I am hoping that one of our current members can serve beyond 2023 for continuity’s sake.
Roster:
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Advocacy and EDI, Continuing Education, Membership and Engagement
What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
We are planning the next CRCC update forum which we think will take place sometime in September.
We will submit ALA/Core program proposals.
