Advocacy Coordination Committee – May 2023 Report
The group met 1 time this quarter.
Recent Activities
First Activity
Discussed how the committee should operate, using example of issues brought to us for discussion.
Meets Core’s strategic goals for Evaluate and Adjust Core’s Structure
Second Activity
Opened up discussion for issues of potential Core Advocacy
– a request from the World Jewish Congress that ALA develop a standard or policy directing libraries to not shelve or co-locate books addressing the Holocaust with Holocaust denial books.
– a request to advocate for libraries as content providers introduce business models to ensure that these are mutually beneficial
– a request for Core to endorse the ICOLC statement on metadata rights of libraries

What will your group be working on for the next 6 months?
Continuing to discuss issues related to advocacy. Based on these experiences, sharpen the focus and operations of the committee, which should lead to a proposal for an updated charge.
