Deadline: Applications must be submitted no later than October 31 to be eligible for the following year.
The ALA/AIA Library Building Awards are co-sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The competition recognizes excellence in the architectural design and planning of libraries, and is managed by the Core Building and Operations Section Awards for Buildings and Interiors Committee.
Selection of an awards jury considers the juror applicants’ experiences in terms of type of libraries represented, project sizes, geographic areas, and previous jury experiences. Applicants must be an ALA/Core member and have library building project experience. In addition, to library experience, the ALA encourages individuals from underrepresented groups to apply.
ALA members who are architects must apply through AIA.
Anticipated time commitments for selected jurors include:
- Virtual review and discussion of entries, and selection of winning projects in early next year
- Attending the Awards Presentation Program at the ALA Annual Conference and participating in the orientation meeting for new jurors
Review ALA’s personal data notification (PDN) before proceeding.
